Day #3, Macadamia Nut Farm & Coffee Plantation

Continuation of Tuesday, 6/25.

After the Tour of the Traditions we went to the Valhalla Macadamia Nut Farm and the Filadelfia Coffee Plantation. Both were interesting tours, one small scale (macadamias) and the other a large scale commercial operation.

Grading the macadamia nut sizes. The farm is more or less off the grid and it has no electricity. They have made a number of Rube Goldberg devices for their farm.

Our transportation to the coffee plantation. We went in two vehicles and it was about a 20 minute from our hotel. The hotel is a few blocks back behind the truck.
Arrival at the Fildelfia coffee plantation.

We had an extensive tour, starting in the nursery and ending up in the restaurant drinking delicious Antigua Arabica Coffee.

The students should now know the difference between Robusto and Arabica coffee and why the plantation grafts the trees.

 Adios Filadelfia Plantation.
Prior to departing for the restaurant on Tuesday evening, both teams met in the courtyards for a final practice of their projects. This is the Spelling Bee team meeting.
